History

Based on random archaeological finds, it can be assumed that there has been a continuous human presence for over a thousand years before Christ, in the heights. “The frequentation of the Fresagrandinaria area dates back at least to the Late Bronze Age (11th-10th century BC) age in which a bowl of dough is given with a vertical ribbon handle with raised apexes” (A. Faustoferri, 'Oltre Histone'… 1996’).

fortified

The first plant dates back, as previously mentioned, to 9th century, around a fortress built by the counts of Chieti on a ridge of chalky rock overlooking the Trigno valley.

To be seen: Church of the Holy Savior , sita in Salita Cavour. The original layout dates back to the rise of the village and later transformed into nineteenth century. The historical events of the religious building are related to the castle and the fortified village as it is located at the highest point of the town; Church of the Madonna (small church of Our Lady of Grace), of medieval origin, was mentioned by Ughelli as an employee of the Benedictine abbey of Santa Maria di Tremiti. Santa Maria delle Grazie is precisely a Madonna much venerated by the Benedictine friars. The building was mentioned several times in privileges and confirmations of popes Leo IX (1053), Nicola II (1061), antipope Anacletus II (1136), papa Alessandro III (1172). In 1279 King Charles I of Anjou gave it to a lay dignitary; remains of’abbey of Sant'Angelo in Cornacchiano; municipal fountain, located in the ancient center. It was made in 1891 when the new one was inaugurated aqueduct; Palazzo de Lellis, Palazzo Rocchio, palazzo De Martinis, palazzo Cosmo Terpolilli stately homes located in the historic center and dating back to the seventeenth century.

Tradition and folklore

Among the gastronomic specialties: roast porchetta (1Festival 17 agosto 1964), the braid (rolls of tender kid or lamb intestines around stalks of oregano), the viscìca they call elsewhere ventricina and so on: the women learned to use even the less noble parts of meat or vegetables, making them delicacies. Home desserts are represented by fragrant taralli and dai cellipieni, the typical local dessert.

Peasant and migration museum

The 10 gennaio 2016 was inaugurated on “Peasant and migration museum of the Trigno Valley” in the ancient premises of a medieval tavern, warehouse and oil mill dug into the rock, with material coming mostly from free donations from citizens of Fresani. This museum wants to be a testimony of the peasant life of the past when there was no electric light, motor machines, running water and bathrooms, the paved roads, and phones, radio and television
